{"id":236,"date":"2010-01-26T17:08:02","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T21:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wildbluesky.com\/?p=236"},"modified":"2010-01-26T17:08:02","modified_gmt":"2010-01-26T21:08:02","slug":"splain-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wildbluesky.com\/?p=236","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Splain This"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m adding a Windows 2008 RC2 (x64&#8230; if it matters) to an existing 2003 domain.\u00c2\u00a0 Join the domain, everything&#8217;s happy, run all my forestprep &amp; domainprep goodness&#8230; but dcpromo kept shitting itself with:<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Failed to examine the active directory forest.\u00c2\u00a0 The error was: The operation cannot continue because the LDAP connect\/bind operation failed: error: 58\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The only thing I could find was <a href=\"http:\/\/tsoorad.blogspot.com\/2010\/01\/oh-my-aching-brain-cell-or-dcpromo-u.html\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a> which suggested the local admin account password had to be the same as the forest root domain password.\u00c2\u00a0 Before I went through all the account renaming and hunting down the password (all <em>your<\/em> admin accounts get renamed, right?\u00c2\u00a0 And no one really has that password?)
